How it works

The cold air is recirculated into the air where it mixes with existing air reducing the temperature and humidity, and the cycle repeats. Inside the unit, there are several components that manipulate pressure, state and the temperature of the refrigerant to allow it to cool the room.

Key components of an air conditioner

So far, we understand that every air conditioner must have a coolant flowing through several key components as follows:

The evaporator: the warm air is drawn from inside your house, passed through expansion valves to regulate the flow, then blown over a cold evaporator coil to absorb heat and while it absorbs heat, it changes to gas as it is moved to the compressor.

The compressor: the compressor is like a pump, where it decreases the volume of gas while raising its temperature and pressure for the gas to condense.

The condenser: condenser takes the warmth collected from the space by the coolant in the form of vapour and pumps it outside, the air outside absorbs heat as the coolant changes from gas to liquid. The cycle begins again with the evaporator.
